A: The chat program requires Netscape Navigator 4.08, Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, or any later versions of these (e.g. Mozilla Firefox). To start the program, Java has to be installed and activated.

If your version of the Internet Explorer (which is supplied with the Windows operating system) does not support Java and the Knuddels chat program does not work, download and install the free Java-Plugin of Sun Microsystems (by clicking on the following button).

If you belief that Java is installed properly and you are still experiencing problems with starting the chat program, the problem could be caused by a firewall in your network. In this case, please contact your system administrator (the person who is responsible for the computer network and the Internet connection) for help.

A: Just click on the link "Forgot password" on the Knuddels.com start page (in the login area). This brings you to a special page where you can enter your nickname to have the old password send to your email address.

A: Just type /edit anywhere in the chat program to access your profile page.

A: No. Nicknames have an important function within Knuddels. Other chatters rely on your nickname to find you, to chat to you, and to leave you messages.

A: No, Knuddels.com and the main components of the site (e.g., the chat, guest book, forum) are free.

A: There is a large number of possible functions and commands that can be used within the Knuddels chat program. Some of them are only applicable in certain situations. The command /h opens a help window, which lists some of the most important and frequently used commands. The function key [F1] opens a different help page, which shows you the so called "shortcut function keys".

The most convenient way to learn about Knuddels is the online tutorial -- our automatic learning program. Once activated, the tutorial comes back to new chatters at regular intervals to offer short lectures about the chat system and the commands. The tutorial can be activated using the command /tut .

Another great way of learning about Knuddels is to ask other chatters for help. Just enter a frequented channel and ask your question. You will be surprised about how supportive the fellow chatters are.

A: If you have the status of a Knuddels Family member, you can create an own channel by entering the desired channel name with a leading / on the login page of Knuddels.com (for example, /mychannel creates and opens a new channel called "mychannel). Since private channels are not displayed in the public listing, you can enjoy quiet and undisturbed chatting here -- with whoever you invite to join.
